Firefighter Confiscates Mom’s Phone When He Notices Her Staring At It

Can you imagine yourself relaxing on the beach on a sunny day? Now imagine that you’re busy on your phone when all of a sudden, a firefighter comes charging toward you and grabs your phone from your hand.

This might sound unlikely, but in this case, it was all part of a carefully orchestrated campaign.

The campaign first started in July of 2018. It all started when the Södra Älvsborg Rescue Service Association decided that they would create a video for their Facebook page.

Because of this, the members of the rescue service decided to head to one of the local beaches. With their cameras in their hands, they walked with the two firefighters who were the stars of the show.

The team stayed on the beach until the sun started to go down before they finally jumped into action. They had their target audience, which was people staring down at their phones. They started doing what they had.

The firefighters quickly ran up to their targets and snatched the phones from their hands. It was quite startling, but there was a good reason for their actions.

The content of the video was surprising and unique, which quickly turned it into a viral sensation across the web. The video received thousands of views and the message the video was sharing seemed to hit home for many.

The Södra Älvsborg Rescue Service Association’s goal was to share a very specific warning to parents and guardians all over the globe.

It comes as no surprise that phone usage is a an all-time high in today’s world. In the era we live in, it’s hard to find a single person that doesn’t have their own mobile device.

A website called ‘Statista’ recently collected and compiled some interesting and eye-opening statistics regarding the growth of cell phone users around the world.

Statista revealed one rather surprising statistic. They informed the world that in 2015, roughly 4.15 billion people owned mobile and cellular devices. That’s more than half the population!

They then decided to project the growth of this usage until 2020 and they predicted that the number would grow to about 4.78 billion by the time 2020 came around!

We know that cell phones seem all-pervasive, but did you know that there are some places around the world where they cannot be used?

One of the most common examples of this is that drivers are forbidden from using their cell phones while driving. It’s obvious that this is to prevent car accidents, as cell phones after cause them.

The National Conference of State Legislatures, also known as the NCSL, also decided to release some interesting information in May of 2019.

They revealed that a total of 20 American states have banned the use of any kind of hand-held device while driving. Some of these states include California and Arizona.

But did you know that 48 states have banned texting while driving completely? Missouri is one of the two states where texting while driving is not banned.

With that being said, Missouri state does have a similar law for new drivers. The law states that if you are under 21 you are not allowed to send messages while on the road.

Another place where people are not allowed to use their cell phones is when they are aboard a plane. You can only use your phone if it is set to ‘airplane mode’.

If you cannot switch your phone to ‘airplane mode’, you need to turn it off and put it away until you land. One pilot, however, has come forward to explain exactly why this is.

Most people remember that apparently cell phone use put airplane passengers in danger. The claim was that it could interfere with the plane’s hardware.

However, according to pilot Patrick Smith, that fact should be outdated as he stated during an interview with the website WalesOnline in June 2017.

Smith stated, “It’s unlikely that a mobile phone can cause problems in the cockpit, particularly on modern aircraft where components are, by design, carefully shielded.”

“But it’s not impossible. I’d guess at least half of all phones, whether inadvertently or out of laziness, are left on during a flight.”

“That’s about a million phones a day in the United States,” Smith continued.

“If indeed this was a recipe for disaster, I think we’d have more evidence by now.” However, that is when Smith revealed the main reason why this rule was in place.

Smith explained, “Ultimately, the phone thing is more of a social issue than a technological one. That is, do you really want to be sitting on an airplane listening to 200 people chatting away simultaneously?”

“It’s possible that airlines are using the mere possibility of technical complications as a means of avoiding the social implications of allowing cellular conversations on planes.”

Another pilot, Chris Foster also shared the same view. Foster also stated that mobile devices shouldn’t be any kind of problem today. However, he did make it clear that the “myth” did once carry some weight due to the technology of the time.
