Golden Retriever Has Litter Of Five But One Is Green

Once the vet saw their little puppy, it was clear that he was surprised. It was written all over his face that there was something very strange about their puppy. They just hoped that it wasn’t serious.

Melinda’s heart raced as the vet shook his head in disbelief. He examined the poor pup with a frown, and when he eventually finished, he told them exactly what was going on with the little guy. But the news would be anything but what they were expecting.

Goldie lived an extremely happy life in Ontario, Canada. She had to adjust to the cold when her owners, Melinda and Gregory, moved from their previous life in Texas. The Canadian cold was very different from the Texas sun, and Goldie definitely noticed.

But the weather didn’t keep Goldie away for long. In no time, she was playing in the snow and having fun. But at the end of the day, the golden retriever loved to curl up in their warm home and enjoy.

Melinda Carriger and her Husband Gregory moved to Ontario to be closer to Melinda’s parents. They knew they couldn’t give up their loyal pet, Goldie. Goldie was their golden retriever who had been by their side for three years ever since they picked her up from a shelter as a puppy.

The couple assumed that the hardest part of their move to Canada would be getting Goldie across the continent. But they had no idea what would happen after they got into the country.

After getting through the expenses and complications of moving to another country with an animal, Melinda and Gregory finally felt that they could start to settle into their new life.

Gregory already had a new job lined up, and Melinda worked remotely. But they had overlooked something before they left that they would only realize once they were in Canada.

After a month in Ontario, Melinda noticed something strange about her loyal dog. She started acting strange. She was taking her toys, blankets, and pillows to one corner of their living room close to the heater.

It looked as if she was making a nest. Melinda scratched her head in confusion. But when she looked the strange behavior up, she couldn’t believe what she was looking at.

After doing some research, Melinda came to the conclusion that her canine was, in fact, pregnant. She was shocked by the revelation because she hadn’t had any contact with any other dogs since they got into the country.

Then it dawned on her. The father must have been their neighbor’s dog back in their old neighborhood in Texas. Melinda was speechless at the chances of the pregnancy.

Melinda made sure to give Goldie plenty of love throughout her pregnancy. She just wanted to make sure that her loyal girl was as comfortable as possible. The entire time she got plenty of pampering.

Gregory even bought her extra special treats, and Melinda would let her sleep on the bed every night. It was heaven on earth for the dog. But there was something about the pregnancy that shook Melinda to her core.

After a few months, the day finally arrived for Goldie to give Birth. She had not one, not two, but six beautiful babies. But then they noticed that there was one more on its way, and Goldie seemed to be having trouble.

But what nobody expected was when the last little puppy was born, they would look anything but normal. There would be one glaring detail that Melinda and Gregory would immediately notice.

All of the little golden retriever pups looked perfectly healthy and normal. But the last little pup to come out was very different from the rest. It was immediately apparent from the color of his coat.

His fur should have been a beautiful gold, just like all of his siblings. But when they took a closer look, they realized it was a color they had never seen before – it was a bright green. They had no idea what they were dealing with.

Melinda was surprised, to say the least. Her poor little pup looked drastically different from the others, and as far as she knew, it was unheard of. She knew that she couldn’t stand by and do not act.

She decided to take her unique pup to the vet to get to the bottom of it. But when they had no idea what to expect when they brought him through the doors, especially when they saw the look on the vet’s face.

The vet finally opened his mouth and explained exactly what was going on. He told Melinda that the green coat was a condition that was beyond rare. Only two other puppies in the world have had a similar condition before.

This made their puppy extra special. But that wasn’t the first thing on Melinda’s mind. She wanted to know what the condition meant for her puppy and if she could do anything to help. But her vet wasn’t finished yet.

What caused the unique pigment change was a chemical in bile called biliverdin. The puppy’s coat was stained by the chemical when it came into contact with the mother’s amniotic fluid.

Now that they knew what they were dealing with, they asked the vet what it meant for their puppy. They were worried it would affect them long-term. Thankfully the vet put their minds at ease.

The vet told them that their puppy was a very rare and special boy and that there was nothing wrong with him. He further explained that it was purely an aesthetic condition and that the little dog wouldn’t have any other effects.

Melinda breathed a sigh of relief and hugged her husband. She was so happy that nothing was wrong and that they could focus on keeping them all healthy. They could return to their litter and reunite them with their unique sibling.

Melinda and Gregory decided to name their little green puppy Copper. They thought the name was appropriate because the metal turns green when it oxidizes. They were prepared to look after and care for the entire litter as well as their loyal girl Goldie.

They decided to name all of their puppies after Snow White’s dwarves. The puppies quickly adapted to the cold just like their mother did, and in no time, they were playing outside in the snow with her.
