It’s safe to say everyone likes exploring nature and going for a hike, no matter where we live. Just walking through a forest and relaxing while listening to the sounds of nature are reasons enough to go and enjoy a say outside the busy city.
This is the reason many people take with them cameras to photograph or take videos of those moments. It’s like taking back with you a piece of the beauty you got to experience. But when a woman took her vacation photo, she had no idea that it will become viral. And it wasn’t because of the scenery!
She looked at it and couldn’t understand why so many people reached out and commented after seeing it on Reddit. Then, in just a few hours, her photos became a hit.
There were just photos of her and her friend, but what really baffled people was what could be seen in the background. Her blood turned cold when she saw it!
The place the woman and her friend visited was in Ontario. She explained in her Reddit post how she got there.
“Around a month ago, my friend and I went hiking at Dundas Peak in Hamilton, Ontario. She suggested this location because her cousin went there a few days before us.”
The Redditer said that her friend’s cousin had “posted an Instagram of him sitting on the edge of a cliff looking over Hamilton and the Niagara Escarpment.”
It looked amazing, so the two decided to go there and recreate the same photo. Little did they know that they were being watched!
Dundas Peak is known for being spectacular. Plenty of people use that peak to take breathtaking photos. Some even get engaged up there and share their amazing photos online.
And when these two friends decided to snap that photo, they didn’t think too much of it. But after she shared it online, people told her she was right. Then, speculations were being made and even police got involved…
A hikers’ favorite place, Dundas Peak overlooks Hamilton City in Ontario. Close by, the tallest waterfall in the city Tew’s Falls can also be visited.

Since 2016, there have been over 140,000 people to Dundas Peak and the number of accidents and even hikers going missing has seen an increase. The trail is quite dangerous…
Although the authorities have warned people to avoid the treacherous trail, people still hiked there and were eager to get to the peak.
One of them was the cousin that reached the peak and had his photo taken. He posted it on Instagram and his cousin saw it – and realized something was off…
When it comes to places like Dundas Peak, you know you have to take the perfect photo. After a long hike, snapping the best pose is your reward.
But what this man got was a lot more than he had bargained for. And he was absolutely clueless!
A few days passed and Kim, the man’s cousin saw the spectacular photo and told her friend to join her and see Dundas Peak together.
They got ready for the hike and after a 2.4-mile trail, they reached the same spot where Kim’s cousin took the photo. That’s when they saw it…
Sitting on the edge of the peak and taking in the beautiful view, the two friends recreated the same photo they saw on Kim’s Instagram.
Taking turns and posing for the camera, they had no idea that they’d encounter something sinister!
After taking their time and relaxing at the end of the trail, the women looked around and enjoyed their time. That’s when one of them noticed something was glimmering below.
Just beneath from where they were standing, the women could see that something was throwing a light back at them. It wasn’t water since it looked like it came from a tree…
It was around three feet away, so the women got closer to check out the tree. They couldn’t believe that they were looking at a set of keys!
Leaning over the edge, Kim tried her best to reach the keys. But now that she had them, what would she do next? It looked like someone lost them… Little did Kim know that her discovery would lead her to a deeper mystery!
Kim thought someone was looking for the keys. Maybe they fell from the owner’s pocket. So, as she looked at each key, she realized one of them was for a vehicle. They asked around, but nobody was missing their keys…
As evening was coming, the two women headed back towards their car. They managed to get back in time before the park closed. And that’s when they saw the car…
It was already getting dark and nobody else was around. As they reached the parking lot, Kim saw that they were the only ones in the park.
The only cars left in the parking lot was Kim’s and a dirty Hyundai Elantra. Looking at the car keys, Kim noticed that they were for a Hyundai Elantra.
Kim decided to leave the keys on the roof of the car. In case someone was still in the park, looking for the keys, they’d end up back at the car and see them on the roof.
But while Kim’s idea was good, she had no idea that the car had been deserted for quite a while.
A week later, Kim saw the car on the news. It seems that a female tourist had gone missing at Dundas Peak.
According to the report, her car was still in the parking lot. It was the car Kim saw that night, when she left the keys there. Police were still searching for that woman!
The news of the missing woman made Kim call her friend. Shaken, she told her what she found out and they met to talk about their hike.
They completely forgot about the photos, so they thought maybe there was a clue they hadn’t seen before, just like it happened with the keys. First, they took a look at Kim’s cousin’s photo. And that’s when they realized they had to ask for a second opinion…
Taking a closer look at the photo her cousin posted in Instagram, Kim’s blood turned to ice. She couldn’t believe what she was looking at.
Her friend suggested they upload the photos and ask people on Reddit what they thought about it. Here’s what they saw when they zoomed in the photo.
Kim looked closely at the photo her cousin took and analyzed it, comparing it with the ones they took. Zooming in, Kim realized that she was looking at something strange in the background.
Here’s what Kim’s friend said in her Reddit post: “Today, she messaged me when she noticed something obscure in the background in her cousin’s photograph…”
“Way below the edge of the trail, where the slope is too steep to stand on, there appears to be a thin person standing unnaturally straight with no visible face,” wrote Kim’s friend.
The woman was freaking out! “I know you’re probably thinking that is probably just a brave hiker,” she said, explaining that the “spot is completely inaccessible.
“Maybe it isn’t a person? But I’m not sure what else it can be. I was hoping those who have also been to Dundas Peak and have taken a similar picture could share it,” said Kim’s friend.
“Hopefully, we can figure out what… we’re looking at,” she wrote. A few hours passed and her photos went viral! They even showed up on the news…
That was the most intriguing thing people had seen in a while. Some claimed it was only a trick of the light, but with all of the photos at Dundas Peak we saw, the illusion doesn’t show up elsewhere!
Some people believed the photo was quite disturbing, but most of them said there had to be a logical explanation. Was it the missing woman?
Someone’s comment in the thread reminded Kim and her friend of their discovery. “Doing some research online, it looks like people go missing in that area about once a year?” asked the Redditor who admitted that it’s “creepy none the less.”
Thinking at the car keys she had found, Kim thought it was the missing woman. But what if she was wrong?
The reports said she was wearing jeans and a grey sweater when she had last been seen. Someone explained in the Reddit thread that there is “a trail that leads up to that area and goes around the escarpment just under the rocks.
“That is, most likely, a person hiking around,” added the Reddit user. Then, someone else tells them she knows the truth about the person in the photo!
“There really are a lot of spots along that trail between the peak and Tew’s Falls where you can go down closer to the edge,” explained the woman. Then, she claimed it was her!
“I’ve been to Dundas Peak and the surrounding area several times in the past two months. One of the times I went was about 5-6 weeks ago, the weather and lack of leaves looked the same as in your pic OP, and I was wearing a grey dress shirt and dark jeans.”
“This pic is kind of what I imagine I would have looked like from far away,” said the woman. Her explanation was logical enough.
As you can imagine, the story went viral and it even got in MailOnline. But that’s when others came up with a new theory about the mystery woman in the background.
It seems that on the day before Christmas in 1934, 15 people died in a train crash that happened just below Dundas Peak.
It was believed that their souls haunted the peak. However, locals took the story with a grain of salt. Still, the photo does send chills up your spine!
The missing woman has not been found by the police. Who knows what really happened to her?
What Kim knows is that she will never see the peak as she did before her discovery.
