Women Rush To Get IUD Birth Control Before Trump Takes Over The Oval Office

Now that Donald Trump has been elected the 45th president of the United States, many women are genuinely worried about their reproductive rights. At the moment, the Affordable Care Act covers birth control pills, while many insurance plans also cover other birth control methods, such as the Intrauterine Device (IUD). According to sources, such as NY Mag, Trump has declared to repeal the Act on the first day of his term. This may make getting birth control more difficult and costly for some women. https://twitter.com/DrJaneChi/status/796449300406554625?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw A Daily Beast article goes in-depth as to why women are currently flocking to get IUDs and other birth control before the Trump-Pence team takes over. The article claims access to birth control has never been stable, and Trump’s election will only make it harder on women to obtain IUDs and other birth control. In fact, the article  is titled “Get an IUD Before It’s Too Late.” https://twitter.com/seelions/status/796291959296028672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw While Trump isn’t seeking to make birth control illegal, his repealing of the Affordable Care Act may result in women shelling out more money for IUDs, pills, and other methods currently covered by the Act. Proponents are urging women to look into IUDs as a long-term birth control method compared to daily pills, especially when such things will no longer be covered by insurance if Trump has his way. https://twitter.com/jessicacoen/status/796268073753935872 Of course, IUDs are not right for everyone, but they are one option when it comes to controlling your reproductive rights. Hopefully, birth control remains affordable, if not completely covered by insurance, under Trump’s administration. The Huffington Post addressed the issue as well, stating women who receive an IUD now will be covered throughout Trump’s presidency. They’re urging women to look into the birth control just in case Trump goes through with his promises of defunding PlannedParenthood and repealing Obama’s Affordable Care Act. Only time will tell if Trump and Pence carry out their promises and threats of making access to birth control more expensive and difficult for women, but it seems that’s a risk not worth taking as more and more women plan to get IUDs before January.
